War of the Worlds

I really like this review of War of the Worlds. I haven’t seen the movie yet, but now I kind of want to.

Two Things

One: I like the class I’m taking right now. The instructor has a good sense of humor, so the dry feeling of Managing Windows Server 2003 Environment is less noticable. That’s that. Now onto the good stuff :)
Two: I got the full time position at LCS.

Nothing New

Nothing new, thought you might like to know. Waiting on another check from that client who still owes me a good deal of money. I fear I may be waiting quite some time. Tara and I read The Magician’s Nephew by C.S. Lewis to each other this week. I actually got the idea from Laurel, who happened to email me a few weeks ago. It was a good book, lots of parallels and whatnot.

Fireflies

We’ve had a bunch of fireflies in our back yard the last few nights, it’s really cool. ‘Nuff Said.

Also, I played poker with the guys tonight and won 5 bucks. Usually I lose 5 or 10 so it was nice to come back a bit. I was getting really insane hands though, flushes, full houses and whatnot, but of course somebody else (Joel) was getting hands that were also good but just under mine so he was betting strong. It was good, though I don’t think it was any more or less fun than any other week.

No word from LCS yet.

Yeah, so…

My meeting with Ron went well. We talked about a lot of things and I was able to more accurately describe my needs as far as comp time and paid time off. We also talked about some of the responsibilities of the new position and things like that.

So, now I wait.

Success

Father’s day has been a complete success!

Ok, I’m not really sure how it’s possible to judge whether you’ve had a successful day or even what the goals were that have been met, but I did hang out with a lot of great people and eat some really tasty food.

My aunt Nan was in town today, her and Larry stop in about twice a year and have lunch or just hang out and show us pictures from around the country. She’s taken some really cool close-ups of flowers lately.

It’s always good to be around my family, and it’s always really funny to hang out with my in-laws. Nothing negative, of course, they’re just funny (this is coming out as sounding like funny-strange, but I just mean funny-humorous.)

At any rate, I’m meeting with Ron (Operations Manager at LCS) Monday to see what we can figure out (basically if I’m going to be accepted or not based on my requested compensation.) I’m not nervous really, I just don’t know quite how to ask for what I need. I’m going to ask for compensation just under what they’ve approved I think. I really want to still be able to volunteer at riverview for set changes and whatnot, so I have to figure that in.

So much to think about.
