Cabinets

Andy working on trim.
Andy knows what he’s doing; me, not so much. You’ll notice he’s working while I take a picture.

These cabinets will be huge. A total of 106.5 inches wide and 58.5 inches tall, divided into three pieces. I’ll take a picture when they’re up… shouldn’t be more than a week til they’re done. We had these cut and put together in like 4 hours… custom cabinets… so fast. So far our total is under $100.

Windows 2000 Server

When changing the admin password on a Windows 2000 Server (which I’m sure you’ve all done) make sure that you have another account with admin rights that can login on the servers in your domain. Once your password is changed and you’ve logged out as admin, it is likely that your servers will hang the next time you try to login. The local DOMAIN\admin profile on each server will not recognize the new SID that you have created. You will have to login under another account with admin privilages, copy old admin profile files and delete the admin profile from your local user list. When you try to login again everything will be fresh and new (and hopefully functional.)

Avoiding this altogether… when you want to change your admin password, don’t be dumb [like me] and select ‘reset password’ in active directory (because this effectively assigns the account a new SID as well.) Go into user properties and set the ‘User must change password at next logon’ check box (This way just the password record is changed.)

If you did happen to lock up the system as I described above, all the shares should remain accessible (until you decide to restart because you have to do something on the system.)

What a day.

They’re Back

Well, the students are back and I’m actually a bit excited. It’ll be nice to have some help around here. I’ve been given three techs that all seem pretty willing. Now I have to create our plan of attack.

I’m trying to remember what Keith used to do with us to get us moving on stuff, but mostly he just told us who was having a problem and we would just go troubleshoot it. Now I need to find the balance between looking over these guys shoulders and leaving them alone as they work things out. That’s gonna be tough because I don’t really know what they’re capable of. So, I’m trying to make it clear that I’m available for any questions they might have about anything I’m having them look at.

Overall, there is huge a potential of reduced workload. We’ll see what happens.

Cutting the Septic

On a list of things that are a bad idea, I think cutting someone’s septic line would be right up there.

MoeStvnsn: I’ve been ignoring all calls tonight so I can get stuff done
MoeStvnsn: I ended up terminating the company that hit the septic tank today
Nate: you killed them?
MoeStvnsn: yeah
Nate: wow
Nate: that seems awfully severe
MoeStvnsn: I haven’t been as irritated in a long time as I was today
Nate: you sounded pretty peeved
MoeStvnsn: I leave for 2 hours to tend to other projects and this thing happens
Nate: seems like they’d be more careful
Nate: what company was it?
MoeStvnsn: I was already irritated with them becuase they contacted me a day before wanted to cut the water line
MoeStvnsn: underground specialties
MoeStvnsn: I told them I needed a couple weeks in advance
MoeStvnsn: anyway I gotta get back to work
Nate: alright
Nate: have a good night

That just sucks.

Bleach

Ok, the laundry turned some of my stuff blue and consequently we had to buy bleach. As I’m looking at about 30 different types of bleach (not an exaggeration) I find the one I need but the bi-line reads like this: “Mountain Fresh.” That’s all… we bought Mountain Fresh Bleach, whatever that means.
