Two Planes Cannot Simultaneously Occupy the Same Space

Two planes take off at the same exact moment. They are flying across the Atlantic. One leaves New York and is flying to Paris at 500 miles per hour. The other leaves Paris and is flying to New York at only 450 miles per hour ( because of a strong head wind ). Which one will be closer to Paris when they meet?

  9. Its actually pretty simple.
    Its a trick question.
When the planes meet, regardless of differing speeds, they are in the exact same location.

  10. No, I don’t get what Dave posted…

  15. Actually I think the plane that left from Paris would be closer to Paris, because when they meet they would be nose to nose and the tail of the Paris to New York flight would still be closer than the nose of the other.

  16. Your overthinking the question. It’s a simple question with a simple, straightforward answer.

  17. I think you’re under-thinking the question, so there.

  18. If you think about it. When you meet somewhere, your going to the same location/place. So when the planes meet, their in the same location.

  19. When two people meet they do not occupy the same space, they are only in the same general area. If the two planes actually “met” in the way you are talking about, niether would be closer because they would have both blown up.

  20. meet ( P ) Pronunciation Key (mt)

    1. To come together: Let’s meet tonight.
    2. To come into conjunction; be joined: “East is East, and West is West, and never the twain shall meet” (Rudyard Kipling).
