WordPress 2 “Duke”

If you are Drew, Matt, Teresa, Jeff, Danny or my mom, you may notice that the management side of your blog has changed quite a bit. I have taken the liberty of upgrading from WordPress 1.5.2 to version 2. The most notable difference is the writing interface, with actual live formatting of your posts (called WYSIWYG editing), which is pretty cool. There is also a file upload section right on the writing section, so if you think “Ooooh… I have a picture of the time when I wrote with permanent marker on that kid!” you can go right ahead and upload that.

Anyway, have fun and of course if you have any questions just let me know, I’m happy to help.

Random Picture

Random Pic Plugin

I got this random picture generator thing working… it looks through all the posts in the database and finds the images referenced in them, then puts the picture in the sidebar. If you click on the picture you go to the post the picture is from. Pretty cool, no?

I like this one because its monks, my workstation at the office, and a recently pierced Me at the hospital. Not too shabby.

Try it a few times, see what crazy combinations you can come up with.

Oh yeah i forgot to tell you… you have to refresh the page to see a new random set.

Sub

I’m actually subbing for a class right now. Middle School computers, semester exam. They’re surprisingly quiet. I’m not sure I could handle being a teacher, it’s too much trying to get them to see you a certain way to help them learn and stay focused and all that.

The Rig

So, I haven’t shown off my office at all since this old post and Andy, Matt and I were talking about Andy’s office last night so I thought I’d show off the workstation I’ve got setup.

The Rig

I’ve found that having one monitor setup in portrait mode makes editing documents and whatnot much easier. Anyway, the window on the bottom right is the program I use for monitoring lab activity, it shows me the screens of all logged in workstations. Email above that, and Google Desktop to the far right. Then of course R&D mostly on the left screen.

Oh, and Noel gave me that coffee cup while we were at LT. Just one of the many necessary-but-forgotten items purchased at wal-mart that day.

Bleh

I did not feel well this morning. When I got to work I was pretty much expecting to be on my way home right after my meeting. Not true. I’m actually feeling much better.

The meeting was about curriculum guided purchasing of technology for the 2006-2007 school year. I think we came to the conclusion that the elementary lab and the secondary library computers will be replaced with a thinclient/server solution. Also, since we’re looking at more servers we are analyzing the blade servers that are available through various manufacturers to see if we can garner some savings there.

Whoa… this was not supposed to be a techy post, my apologies.

Apple and Intel Again

I was talking with Kite and Kristie today and came to the realization that when you look at the big picture, Apple’s marketing is a bit spotty.

First off, (though this is slightly unrelated) the G5 was fabricated by IBM. Yeah, go figure. This may be even more of a market confusion than the whole Intel thing.

Secondly, the chips that Apple used were always touted as ‘faster’ than whatever else happened to be out. Fine, sure, maybe. But now they say that the Intel chip is making their machines 2-4 times faster than they were before. But then… they’re saying that an Intel chip in a Mac is more than 2-4 times faster than a similar chip in a Windows box. Lies?
