Forecast

I had a meeting today to review the current state of our 5-year technology plan, a curriculum driven technology implementation forecast.  It actually went quite well.  This collection of documents has been in the works since the beginning of the year and there’s still work to be done on it, but we’re definitely over the hump.

My role has been recording our technology history and current status, making a needs assesment, infrastructure goals, technology assistance plan, and implementation plan.  The implementation plan has been the most difficult because it involves predicting the future based on current technology and cost evaluation coupled with curriculum needs in the next 5 years.

Hopefully I’ve helped you meet your ‘read big words’ quota for the day.

Printer

I don’t know who it was, but today there was a paperjam in our new Samsung CLP-550N Color Laser printer. This isn’t a huge deal, I’m happy to clear a paperjam and be somebody’s hero. The problem is that I wasn’t called until the machine started smoking after being partially discombobulated.

PaperJam

Let this be a warning to those who think a paperjam can be solved by removing anything you can figure out how to remove. That isn’t how it works, you have to understand the path the paper should take and carefully take action to resolve the issue.

If the person responsible happens to read this, please, do not take offense, I simply would like a phonecall before you disembowel the printer next time.

Coffee

Bug posted about coffee a few days ago. I’ve been thinking about how I probably drink too much coffee, but at the same time, I don’t know how I’d really deal with not having coffee at work. I usually drink it black, sometimes with a pinch of sugar if I feel like I need that immediate glucose pick-me-up. I associate this with the way my father drinks coffee and who he is. Drinking coffee as it is meant to be drunk means you aren’t going to take crap from people, you would be ok with just the basic necessities, and you appreciate natural beauty (or something like that.)

I was given an understanding by my father that if the coffee is not a perfect, rich blend of warm life, it is completely worthless. There are plenty of worthless coffees out there. That’s how Pops brought me up though, if it’s not the best, you might as well not even bother spending time with it. I like that.

I’m saying if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right. If you’re going to buy it, make sure it’s worth buying. If you’re going to drink coffee, don’t drink the stuff that reminds you you really should quit.

This is not true for relationships. I was given the understanding that people need your effort regardless of how worthy you feel they are. He’s a smart guy.

Oh, and that’s one of my sisters… she’s smart too.

Work

My most recent work, just planning, but still good. Have a click, let me know what you think.
Elem Lab Schedule

I’m hoping this all works out in the time frame I have setup. If all goes well the actual lab replacement will happen during spring break and there will be a fairly seamless transition for the students. I’m trying to get a couple places online to give us a deal for ordering 25-50 LCDs at once, should be interesting to see their responses.

Seems like life has just been work lately. I’ve done other stuff, of course, but there’s just so much going on and so many little things I have to take care of. I’m definately looking forward to the good weather coming up, I’ve noticed it’s easier to get out of bed lately with the weather above freezing.

As always, Tara is awesome and I appreciate her more every day.
