Set Change at Riverview is Imminent

New service times, new series, new set.

I don’t know why I always get excited about it, but when we ramp up to do a new set at Riverview, I am lousy with anticipation. I guess I like that the atmosphere is changing and continues to change.

Pictures coming Sunday afternoon (Eastern time.)

“Evidence/Encounter” Set Building Progression…

My previous post, while being vague and incomplete, was at least short in comparison to this one.

The following is our building progression in photo format with brief statements about each photo. Sorry about the poor quality of these photos, they just haven’t quite gotten phone technology advanced far enough to take a decent picture.

Usually it isn’t necessary to clear the stage to put up a new set, but understanding that this would be a more involved setup, it was deemed necessary.

KAPOW

Riverview has just started a new series, the visual theme of which is comic book styled. We started building on Thursday, (though Kristie probably started designing weeks or months ago.) At any rate, we finished with only an hour or two to spare. Here’s a shot of the first service:

Riverview Kapow Picture

The background image is a cityscape, complete with old-school print patterning. The buildings are foam insulation, cut, screwed together and painted, with styrene light diffusers behind the window cut-outs. They are backlit by some cheap Chauvet LED color-mixing light fixtures. Eric, Brett, Kristie, Andy and I did the construction over the last three days, and I was putting on final touches until just a couple hours before the first service.

Between the building stuff, work, and the family, it’s been a pretty busy week.

St. Lawrence

I just got back from the hospital.

ThumbNail

While working on the Riverview set for next week with KT, I ran a nail through my thumb. They’re only 15 guage finishing nails, so it’s not like there was a giant wound or anything, but there was some blood.

After laughing for like 15 minutes and then doing some more work KT and I decided we should tell Tara [ok, she decided we should, I wanted to finish our project. But I went anyway.] After waiting at the hospital for an hour and some change, I got to see a nurse, then a doctor, then another nurse, then the X-Ray tech, then the doctor again, then another nurse who gave me a shot and another nurse who put a splint on my thumb.

It’s not broken. The nail went through my thumb right proper, but somehow went between the two bones. Overall, it was a good experience, and I’m glad I got to go, but I wish they’d shown me the x-ray, I really wanted to see the bones in my hand.

I only get to leave the splint on for a couple days.
